Upma naturally made with upma rawa everywere but some times we have to think Red Chilli Pastedifferent so rice flour upma is also tastes good. Puffed rice upma is made by first rinsing puffed rice in lots of water to soften them.
To get started with this recipe, we must first prepare a few components. You can have rice upma using 11 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.
The ingredients needed to make Rice Upma:
- Prepare 2 cups (riceKurnai/Noyyi in Tamil) broken rice that is rice rava
- Make ready 5 cups Water
- Make ready 1/2 cup Tur dal
- Get 20-25 Black pepper
- Prepare 1 tbsp Jeera
- Make ready 4 Red chillies
- Make ready to taste Salt as per taste
- Take 1/4 cup Grated coconut
- Make ready For seasoning:
- Take As required Oil
- Make ready Pinch each Mustard,urad dal(split),hing, curryleaves
It is commonly known as Arisi. Arisi Upma is made using Raw rice, toor dal, pepper along with tempering ingredients. Generally Arisi Upma is served with Coconut Chutney. But Personally I love serving with Vendhaya Kuzhambu.
Steps to make Rice Upma:
- Take rice wash it and transfer it in a stainer so that excess water is drained. After 10 to 15 minutes when the rice becomes dry, grind rice coarsely like rava. If you can not grind at home, buy broken rice called as rice noyi or kurnai in tamil which we can get from grocery shop. It will be little big in size so have to break it into rava form (after leaving it for 5minutes upon sprinkling water on it).You can use normal rice and follow this procedure.
- Take Toor dal,pepper, jeera and grind it coarsely in a mixer jar and keep aside.
- Here I am using pressure coooker.Now heat oil in a cooker,add mustard seeds when it splutters add urad dal,hing,red chillies and curry leaves.Fry till dal changes to golden brown colour.
- Now add rice rava,coarsely grinded toor dal mixture.
- At low flame stir it.Now add grated coconut and mix it.Add 5 cups water and required salt.Add water using the same measuring cup used for rice rava.
- Now close the lid of cooker.Pressure cook on medium to low flame for about 3 whistles.
- After the pressure releases from cooker open it and mix well.
- Serve hot Rice Upma with coconut chutney.
Generally Arisi Upma is served with Coconut Chutney. But Personally I love serving with Vendhaya Kuzhambu. It is spiced up with cumin seeds. Arisi upma is made with raw rice and dal, we make it with toor dal (thuvaram paruppu) but I have seen people make with chana dal and moong dal too. Very easy and simple recipe and one pot meal if you.
